Projection Mapping

The Houston Museum of Natural Science recently unveiled a new floor of exhibits, including the most ambitious projection mapping installation I’ve ever seen. I had the immense challenge and privilege of creative directing and leading animation for it. RabCup and Green Hippo had developed a proprietary solution for covering every inch of the massive physical model with projected content.

It was my task to guide the creative production for the at least 30 minutes of content that would become the immersive, educational experience. Just as importantly, I had guided the technical process to get our mix of 2D and 3D animation into the insanely huge, 12K templates needed for covering the model. I oversaw the teams at VeracityColab and WickedLiquid in these tasks, and personally animated the abstract “party“ sequences that sat between each section of educational content.

This was one of the most time consuming and intense projects I’ve ever been part of, but being there and seeing what we made come to life was worth all of it! The recap video is below, but if you want to fully experience what we created, next time you’re in Houston, stop by the Wiess Energy Hall in the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Directed and animated with the teams at VeracityColab and WickedLiquid for Radar Creative, RabCup, and Paul Bernhard Exhibits.
